Not every project we take on is smooth sailing! This job is the perfect example that sometimes on the easiest of jobs you may run into issues. Unfortunately we hit a shallow gas line while hand digging for the the retaining wall excavation. There was also a massive stump that was hidden under all the foliage that we needed to grind out in order to ensure proper base prep for the wall. At the end of the day we got through these issues and delivered a great finished product. Another backyard transformation in East York 🤩 To get things started we’ll be removing the old chainlink fence and foliage. Building a raise patio that ties the last step down from the deck to the top of the basement walkout. As well as laying a landing pad with a new channel drain at the entrance of the garage. Here’s a look at this nice pressure treated deck we built for our client back in March. We love the way it turned out but unfortunately over the summer with the heavy rainfall the boards expanded so tight that rainfall could not pass through. So we came back to make it right, pulling up every single board and refastening them with even spacing. The deck still looks brand new and can now properly drain any heavy rainfall! Here’s the finished look on this backyard transformation in the Beaches! With some new patio furniture this backyard is now set up perfectly to entertain, boasting much more useable space. We used @techobloc Rocka Wall/Step units in Riviera for both garden beds, the cascading steps and landing, as well as the window well. Additionally we expanded the window well to let in more natural light into our client’s basement. For the patio we went with @techobloc BLU60 HD2 in Greyed Nickel and BLU Grande for the slab steppers with river rock in between on the walkway! We think this space tied together nicely with the light grey tones in the patio complemented by the pop of colour in all the Rocka products. Here’s a look back at this front yard makeover in the west end of Toronto! We installed a permeable parking pad and walkway with @techobloc Blu 80 HD2 in Greyed Nickel complemented by an Onyx Black border. First hardscape of the season! On this project we’ll be installing a permitted parking pad, which will use an open graded 3/4 clear base and will be fully permeable. The concrete steps and landing will be be overlayed with natural stone and the sod will be ripped out and replaced with a newly graded garden bed. Full backyard makeover 🤩 This job consisted of a new patio and walkway to the driveway, garden curbed mulch beds for the two trees, and new sod to finish it off! What you can’t see is all the drainage work that was done on this project. We installed three catch basins, two for the downspouts to deal with heavy rainfalls and one for the client’s sump pump. All systems were then connected underground using PVC and corrugated pipe and channeled to drywell we installed. Hope you liked this one, more to come!

A new retaining wall is always the first step when remodeling an elevated outdoor space. For one simple reason it RETAINS all the subsequent work done! On this project we built a beautiful new @permacon_ Grande Wall with 7 matching steps that lead to the new backyard patio. We decided to raise the height of the wall specifically on the left side of the stairs in order to build a bigger and more natural flowing landing. Now the back door entrance leads down to the patio space with only one step off the landing as opposed to the old wood box platform. Here’s a close look at how we went about tying in the back and side section of fencing around this tricky corner between the retaining wall and the property line. That’s a wrap on our last hardscape project of the 2023 season! 🤩 We love the way this project turned out! We took a space that was once occupied by a massive tree and turned it into a quicker path of access to the client’s front door right off the driveway. Ending the 2023 season strong 💪🏻 On this project we got a little bit of everything going on! First we’ll be pulling back a portion of the existing stacked flagstone retaining wall and rebuilding it to provide wider access to the driveway. Next we’ll be installing a series of @techobloc Brandon Retaining walls so we can lower the grade within the space. We’ll also be building a brand new set of Natural @oakvillestone steps to add quicker access to the front door from the driveway. 🤩 Another Curb Appeal Upgrade🤩 On this project our client opted for Ultra Black everything to keep it simple and clean and let their beautiful garden take center stage! 🌺🌻🪻🌼 We used @bestwaystone Garden Curbs to define all of the garden space and Lyra slabs in a vertical orientation to give off the presence of a longer walkway. Another front and backyard makeover completed for our clients to enjoy! Here’s the backyard patio we installed as part of the same project we shared in our last post. We used @oakslandscapeproducts Gardenia Linear wall block in Greystone to retain the backyard on the side of the neighbouring school walkway. The main patio is @bestwaystone Trevista 50 Smooth in Carrara laid in a random pattern and boardered by Adelaide 50 in Ultra Black to match the front entrance design. At the back of the yard we defined a separate seating space by laying a herringbone pattern of the Trevista 50 this time in Glacier Creek to add a little contrast to the space. 🤩 Our take on an Elevated Basement Walkout 🤩 This is definitely not your average concrete poured basement walkout! On this project we went with an engineered @oakslandscapeproducts Proterra Wall System. The system consists of 3 sizes of block (standards, doubles, triples plus copping) with every two courses placed with setback for structural integrity and backfilled with 3/4 clear stone for proper drainage. In our opinion the Proterra blocks provide a more substantial and grand feeling to the space! The walking path was finished off with @techobloc Westmount in Shale Grey laid in a herringbone pattern. ⭐️ Not your average basement walkout! ⭐️ Fun fact: The triple size Oaks Proterra retaining wall blocks that are used for the base of our walkout weigh a whopping 1050 pounds! But with the right @pavetool clamp and excavator setting them is a breeze! Here’s our process for building out our two walls for the walkout, set two courses of block ➡️ backfill 3/4 clear stone ➡️ compact and 🔁. Lastly, can’t forget to have the appropriate drainage in place. For our application a 4 inch perforated drain pipe is used to relieve hydrostatic pressure behind the wall and outlet the water into the direction of our floor drain in our walking path. That’s a wrap on another Midtown project! We added a new armour stone retaining wall, installed a new imitation flagstone interlock walkway leading to the front porch and finished it off with some asphalt repair as the roots of the pre-existing tree had caused uneven patches. Since completion of the job the clients have added a low maintenance garden with river rock and mulch to tie it all together! Toronto Front Yard Makeover 👀 That’s a wrap on our Midtown from yard makeover project (for now)! The clients are super happy with the end result as are we! Watch our previous walkthrough to see how we completely transformed this space. 🤩 To start things off we needed a few retaining walls so we opted for the Bestway Stone Arlington wall in Summer Mist. For a nice contrast we used the Grey Mix coping. The Arlington blocks were also used as curbs throughout the front landscape. On the walkway we have the Trevista Textured pavers in Glacier Creek which again provides a nice contrast with the Arlington Wall. We also built a wooden privacy fence, a nice new garden bed with some boxwoods, and we installed farm fresh sod! 🤩 East York Backyard Reno 🤩 That’s a wrap on our East York Backyard Reno Project! As you can see it turned out amazing and the clients are excited to enjoy their new outdoor oasis! 🌴☀️ To start things off we used the Oaks Modan wall around the perimeter of this patio to lock things in. For the pavers we went with the Oaks Rialto in Marble grey & for the steps we used the Mega Mellville Plus Steps from Permacon in Scandina Grey! 😎 The clients selected a new fence style for us which is horizontal board on board with 2x2 trim. Efficiency is Key 🔑 It’s always nice to have both our LS Tractor & SM-100 at the yard to load up a bin with debris from recent projects! We were able to haul 14 yards of mixed fill out of our yard in under an hour. 🚜 Where did this material come from you might be wondering? Great question! Since our yard is conveniently located near 95% of our sites we’re able to dump small loads at our yard which saves tons of time driving to farther dump sites. 🤩 East York Backyard Reno 🤩 Back here on our East York Reno project we’ve made a lot of progress and today we are screeding out to lay pavers! Since this is a raised patio, we’ve completed the perimeter walls first and that makes our screeding process even easier as no screed rails are needed. We simply notched a 16 foot 2x6 to the correct height of our paver. By doing this we were able to drag the 2x6 along the wall which screeded our HPB out to the perfect height! Upper Beaches Deck Project Complete 🔨 That’s a wrap on this upper beaches deck project. If you’ve followed along with this project you’ll know that when we started there was an existing deck which was rotten and deteriorated. Once demo was done we ran into issues with a very high water table on this property so it slowed us down a bit but we’re glad to finally have this wrapped up for our clients! ✅ The end result is a beautiful deck which seamlessly integrates the outdoors with the indoors when our clients are entertaining. Adding nearly 250 square feet of additional outdoor living space will be a serious game changer for this property. 🍷🍾🎉 The privacy walls have a subtle design element with alternating 1x6 & 1x4 boards and this ties in perfectly with the horizontal 1x4 pickets on the handrails. The large tree in the backyard helps to provide additional privacy, a little bit of shade, & keeps you close to nature while you enjoy your time on this deck. 🤩 With some of the issues that we faced here this project was far from straightforward but our team of professionals was able to adapt and push through to completion. Upper Beaches Deck Project Update 🔨 On day 1 here we started by removing the old deck and beginning to dig for our concrete footings. Our plans were quickly interrupted when we realized the water table was very high on this property. We quickly adapted and switch to helical piles to ensure we could get our clients deck built in a timely manner. Due to the water table and poor soil conditions each one of our 7 helical piles were driven 24 feet deep to ensure they can support the load of the new deck. Lastly, as you can see the installation of the piles has caused the groundwater to move up and flood the backyard so we’ve been constantly pumping it until our clients can proceed with a long term solution of diverting this excess water. 🚧 Yard Improvements Continue 🚧 Today we had some extra time after completing a project so we spent it cleaning up our yard and making more improvements to keep us working as efficiently as possible! 💪 Previously we moved one of our shipping containers to create a second material bay. Today we put down 5 tons of hot asphalt in both of those bays! 🤩 East York Patio Extension Complete 🤩 We’re all wrapped up on this quick, 2 day patio extension project! This was a quick refresh of a typical East York backyard. As mentioned previously the clients had put in a small patio themselves a few years ago and they call us in to extend it and provide a larger outdoor living space! We used the Nueva XL Slabs along with the Molina 6x12 boarder for a beautiful contrast. On top of that we added farm fresh sod to complete the backyard and really tie the space together. Compaction is key 🔑 In this video you can see me showcasing our new Bartell Global BR4600. This piece of equipment was a much needed upgrade for our fleet! Although our smaller plate compactor is great, it’s a bit undersized and that means we have to compact in small lifts. 🚜 With the BR4600 weighing in at 750 lbs it packs a serious punch and this allows us to compact in larger lifts, which cuts down the time it takes for us to install our gravel base. It also has a large plate and is reversible which means no struggling to turn without damaging the base! 💪 All around this has been a great upgrade and makes us that much more efficient on every install. 🤩 Beaches Curb Appeal Boost 🤩 These Beaches homeowners previously enlisted the help of a landscaper who was under qualified and could not complete the project. This is where we stepped in. 🚧 We started last fall by digging up the subpar base which was installed and we replaced it with 8 inches of well compacted gravel base. Next we installed the natural stone slabs which the clients selected and that was it for last season. ✅ Fast forward to today and we just wrapped up the finishing touches on the Hardscape. We added black limestone curbs from Oakville Stone along the walkway, the front garden, and we also used them to create a small wall with matching coping. ⏩ The finished product is a beautiful contrast between the lighter coloured slabs and the black limestone curbs. Office Build Part 2 🛠️🔩🪚 Framing is complete! As you can see we’ve used 2x4 lumber to frame up some simple walls and a ceiling in our soon to be office space.
